Alan is the Director of Wholesale Power Contracts for The United Illuminating Company where his responsibilities include wholesale power purchasing activities, and leading UI’s participation in helping Connecticut achieve its clean energy goals through the purchase of renewable energy and renewable certificates from renewable generators. Alan also plays a lead role in developing and implementing UI’s energy market policy through the New England Power Pool, and through state regulatory and legislative processes. Alan is a veteran of the clean energy industry, having negotiated several long-term contracts for the purchase of clean energy and renewable certificates from developers of wind and solar projects throughout the region over the past decade.
Alan also played a lead role in the development of successful clean energy programs such as Connecticut’s LREC/ZREC small renewable program, which has resulted in about 2,000 long-term REC purchase contracts to date for developers of small renewables in the state, the 3-State Clean Energy RFP which has resulted in the selection of over
four hundred megawatts of solar and wind generation proposals by Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and the NSTAR Green program which matched wind generation with customers interested in promoting green energy in Massachusetts.
Prior to joining UI ten years ago, Alan worked in commercial roles in the utility and marketing sectors of the energy industry for Yankee Gas, Coastal Gas Marketing, El Paso Merchant Energy and NSTAR (nowEversource).
