Chris Hendrix is the Director of Markets & Compliance of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and is responsible for state, Federal, and United Kingdom regulatory and legislative activity related to competitive energy markets; engaging with electricity market Independent System Operators (ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ISO-New England, and Elexon (United Kingdom); and the company’s energy compliance requirements. He has been with Wal-Mart since 2003.
Chris has more than 25 years of experience in the electric and natural gas industries. He served as a Commercial Consumer Representative on the ERCOT Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) from 2004 to 2006. Chris has been on the Executive Committee of the National Energy Marketers Association since 2006 where he currently serves on the Board of Directors and served as a Board Member for COMPETE from 2008 to 2013. He represents the company on various committees at PJM and ISO New England. In November 2013 he was elected Chairman of the Arizonans for Electric Choice & Competition and he was elected in May 2014 to the Board of the Arizona Independent Scheduling Administrator Association. In January 2014 he was appointed as a founding Director of Florida Energy Freedom.
Prior to his current role, he was General Manager of Texas Retail Energy (TRE) which is a subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and has performed as their retail electric provider in Texas since November 2004 and currently provides electricity in 11 competitive states. As General Manager, Competitive Energy he was also responsible for procurement of electricity and natural gas in all competitive energy markets in the United States. He was also instrumental in creating Power4All, Ltd. a wholly owned subsidiary which has been self-supplying electricity to Asda Stores within the United Kingdom since 2008.
Chris joined Wal-Mart from TXU Energy where he was the Manager of Retail Pricing; his responsibilities included pricing transactions, analyzing legislation, ISO rules/tariffs, and regulatory rules in Texas as well as other states. Prior to joining TXU in 2002, Chris worked for Enron Energy Services in various positions leading ultimately to the Manager of Target Markets (Enron Direct) a rapidly growing business focused on selling and supplying natural gas and electricity to small and medium sized businesses throughout the competitive areas of the United States. Before joining Enron in 1997, he was a Senior Rate Analyst for Tenneco Energy, where he prepared cost allocation and rate design studies and FERC filings for Tennessee Gas Pipeline.
Chris received both a B.B.A. in Accounting and a M.B.A. from the University of Houston.
