Krystal Rose, M.F.A., is the Director of Collections and Curatorial Affairs at Mystic Seaport Museum. She has a history and historic preservation background and has worked at cultural sites in Georgia, the Carolinas, and Connecticut. She has been at Mystic Seaport Museum for seventeen years and most recently co-curated the Museum exhibition, Spineless: A Glass Menagerie of Blaschka Marine Invertebrates highlighting both the history of 19th-century science and the study and tracking of marine introduced species in the wake of globalization. Opening to rave reviews in the New York Times and The Washington Post, the exhibition provided Krystal with the opportunity to highlight her passion for sharing collections and sea stories in new ways and a particular interest in the intersections of maritime history and marine science. Before becoming Curator, she spent about a decade working as a liaison between the Museum’s education and curatorial departments, directing the creation of the digital resource Mystic Seaport for Educators, facilitated teacher professional development programs and contributed to the book Bringing Teachers to the History Museum: A Guide to Facilitating Teacher Professional Development (2022). She lives in Mystic, CT with her husband and two sons who all share a passion for nature and the sea.
